The importance of what someone else's opinion and how to use their opinion is stressed in chapters 1-3 of the book, They Say I Say. Using someone's work to make a point and showing what their side of the story is allows for the writer to enhance their works. Not only showing someone else's point, but these chapters give a handy instruction manual to how one would go about properly including the "they say" into a piece of work.
A writer can use these chapters to solidify a point by using other people's thoughts to back them up. It shows writers how to properly include quotations to bring up what someone else would say and it shows how to format sentences to include these quotations. These chapters give the basic jumping off point to including another's opinion which is valuable to an OpEd writing assignment.
